The Science & Magic of Sound Baths
✨the practice & science of crystal singing bowls ✨
it’s no secret that I adore crystal singing bowls. it’s a tool I use to help people sink deeply into rest and something I personally use to help me calm my busy brain and soothe my big emotions when I need a hand processing or shifting.
but did you know actual scientific studies have shown that the healing vibrations of sound actually do help us move, shift and process energy and emotions?
🔬 the science behind it:
🔊 1. sound + brainwaves
sound therapy—including singing bowls—can influence brainwave states:
alpha (8–12 Hz): relaxed, calm
theta (4–8 Hz): meditative, creative
delta (0.5–4 Hz): deep sleep, healing
studies using EEG (electroencephalography) show that sound baths can guide the brain from beta (busy/alert) into alpha and theta states, supporting calm and clarity.
📉 2. measurable stress reduction
a 2016 study published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine found that:
"Sound meditation with singing bowls significantly reduced tension, anger, fatigue, and depressed mood."
heart rate and blood pressure were also shown to decrease after just one session.
⚛️ 3. quartz and piezoelectricity
crystal singing bowls are made of quartz, which has piezoelectric properties—meaning it can convert mechanical energy into electrical energy and vice versa.
Some researchers suggest that playing quartz bowls might subtly interact with the body’s biofield (electromagnetic energy surrounding the body), although more peer-reviewed science is needed here.
crystal singing bowls work on both physical and energetic levels. their sound can help calm the mind, ease tension, improve sleep, shift brainwave states and support energetic alignment.
while some benefits are still being studied, anecdotal evidence and preliminary research show strong potential for supporting mental, emotional, and energetic well-being.

Bali Yoga Retreat 2026
Return to Yourself: A Soulful Retreat in Uluwatu, Bali
Sometimes we need to leave our day-to-day lives to truly come home to ourselves.
This July, I’m inviting you to do just that. Join me for 6 days and 5 nights in breathtaking Uluwatu, Bali, where we’ll move, breathe, connect, and rest deeply. Our retreat is designed to be a soft landing and a powerful reset—a space to remember what it feels like to be fully present in your body, to feel nourished, and to reconnect with your inner rhythm.
Held at the stunning Kayu Mama Resort, nestled between lush jungle and the sea, this retreat is about more than yoga (though there will be plenty of that too!). Each day will offer daily yoga practices—both energising and grounding—alongside functional movement workshops, nourishing organic meals, and ample downtime to rest, explore, or lounge by the pool with a coconut in hand.
Together, we’ll journey through sound and stillness with two immersive sound baths—one to open the retreat and one to close it—bookending our week with intention, deep listening, and a sense of sacred pause. Midweek, we’ll venture to one of Bali’s most magical places: a traditional water temple for a guided purification ceremony and cultural immersion.
Whether you’re craving stillness, transformation, or connection—this retreat was made for you.
Come as you are. Leave with a full heart, a clear mind, and a body that feels like home again.
Spaces are limited and filling quickly.
If your heart feels a pull—trust it. We’d love to have you with us.
